This article provides a historical review of the influence that computers have had on humanistic research and specifically, its appearance and evolution in Spain in the last quarter of the 20th century. It begins in the 40s, when the first electronic computers appeared, as a brief introduction, to later detail the key moments that marked an evolutionary step driven by linguists who knew how to take advantage of their potential. Although in Spain, the adoption of computers for research was later than in other countries, this fact did not prevent the rapid creation of interdisciplinary investigations that linked computer science and philology.
