En las últimas décadas, el marco social, científico y tecnológico ha propiciado un avance exponencial de la investigación en todos sus ámbitos. Ejemplo paradigmático de esta progresión cuantitativa y cualitativa sería el área de la biomedicina en todas sus facetas: básica, traslacional y clínica. En este contexto surgieron los Comités de Ética de la Investigación (CEIs). Éstos han de velar por la seguridad e integridad física de las personas en los estudios de investigación. Además, han de verificar el rigor metodológico y científico de dichos estudios, como aval de viabilidad y garantía de calidad.
In the last decades, the social, scientific, and technological framework, has led to an exponential advance in research in all areas. A paradigmatic example of this quantitative and qualitative progression would be the area of biomedicine in all its facets: basic, translational, and clinical. It was in this context that the Research Ethics Committees (RECs) arose. These committees are responsible for ensuring the safety and physical integrity of individuals in research studies. They must also verify the methodological and scientific rigor of these studies, as a guarantee of viability and quality assurance.
