Este trabajo analiza la representación del perro en la novela El hombre que amaba a los perros, del escritor cubano Leonardo Padura Fuentes, más allá de su función como elemento unificador de la trama. Desde mi punto de vista, la presencia de los perros tiene como propósito funda-mental poner en primer plano la reflexión acerca de la condición humana misma. Sin embargo, lejos de considerar que, en este sentido, la propuesta de la novela sea que los perros realcen la progresiva animalización del ser humano, pienso que, justamente, se centra en lo opuesto: la presencia de estos animales evidencia la permanencia de, al menos, un resquicio de su asediada humanidad.
This work analyzes the representation of the dog in the novel El hom-bre que amaba a los perros from Cuban writer Leonardo Padura Fuentes, going further than its function as the unifying element of the plot. From my point of view, the presence of the dogs has the fundamental purpose of bringing to the forefront the reflection regarding the human condition itself. However, far from considering that, in this sense, the proposition of the novel is that the dogs emphasize the progressive animalization of the human being, I think that, justly, it centers on the opposite: the presence of these animals evidences the permanence of, at least, a gap from its be-sieged humanity.
