The objective of this paper -which has been possible thanks to the facilities offered by the Biblioteca Virtual de la Filología Española (BVFE) for access to marginal philological texts- is to analyze the value and subsequent lexicographical relevance of the approach that Gabriel María Vergara Martín made to the Spanish Cantabrian lexicon during the second decade of the 20th century. At the same time, it tries to vindicate the general philological value of the work of an author who has not yet aroused the interest of the research community. The conclusions underline the quality of his work of description of the Spanish Cantabrian lexicon, based on field studies carried out alone, and the limited repercussions that this had on general Spanish dictionaries. A conclusion that seems to be able to be extrapolated to the rest of his linguistic production, which despite its quality has barely received attention.
El objetivo de este artículo -que ha podido realizarse gracias a las facilidades que para el acceso a textos filológicos marginales ofrece la Biblioteca Virtual de la Filología Española (BVFE)- es analizar el valor y la relevancia lexicográfica posterior de la aproximación que Gabriel María Vergara Martín realizó al léxico de Cantabria durante el segundo decenio del siglo xx. A la vez, trata de reivindicar el valor filológico general de la obra de un autor que todavía no ha despertado el interés de la comunidad investigadora. Las conclusiones subrayan la calidad de su trabajo de descripción del léxico cántabro, basado en estudios de campo realizados en soledad, y las limitadas repercusiones que este tuvo en los diccionarios generales del español. Una conclusión que parece poder extrapolarse al resto de su producción lingüística, que pese a su calidad apenas ha sido atendida.
