Este proceso, nutrido de constantes contactos en el plano material y simbólico, tuvo a España como un actor y mediador relevante. De un lado al otro del Atlántico circularon imágenes, discursos y representaciones, que enfatizaron principalmente el rol de al-Andalus como puente cultural común. Sin embargo, los usos y apropiaciones de este imaginario atravesaron múltiples ideologías, movimientos y regímenes políticos. Este trabajo procurará identificar a las principales narrativas, actores y apropiaciones que han confluido en la articulación de estas dinámicas transnacionales entre ambos mundos.
Latin American links with the southern and eastern Mediterranean are bound by the arrival of Arab and Sephardic migrants, who came from the former Ottoman Empire and Morocco since the end of the 19th century. This process, nourished by constant connexions between material and symbolic plains, had Spain as a relevant actor and mediator. Images, discourses and representations circulated from one side of the Atlantic to the other, mainly stressing the role of al-Andalus as a common cultural bridge. However, the uses and appropriations of this imaginary crossed multiple ideologies, movements and political regimes. This paper attempts to identify the main actors, narratives and appropriations which converged with the articulation of these transnational dynamics between the two worlds.
