La división entre la esfera pública (tradicionalmente asociada al hombre) y la esfera privada (a la mujer) proliferó en el sistema de producción industrial europeo, con la consecuente revalorización de la primera (Spain Citation1993). Esto contribuyó al establecimiento de unas relaciones de poder inalterables dentro del espacio doméstico que instauró jerarquías, cuyo centro de control era la familia heteropatriarcal (Harvey Citation1985; Millett Citation2000; Mallet 2004). La crítica ha situado el hogar como el espacio de mayor marginalidad para la mujer y ha propuesto cambios en las configuraciones familiares (Hayden Citation1981; Spring Citation[1939] 1981; McDowell Citation2000; Massey Citation[1994] 2001; Federici Citation2018). Este artículo argumenta que el espacio doméstico del apartamento/oficina en Paquita Salas (Citation2016) difumina las esferas provocando una redefinición de los conceptos de “hogar,” “oficina” y “familia.” Así, la serie de Netflix adopta una postura subversiva en cuanto a las configuraciones espaciales heteronormativas reconceptualizando las relaciones entre género, espacio y poder.
Divisions between the public sphere (traditionally associated with men) and the private sphere (with women) proliferated in the European industrial production system, through which the former sphere gained value (Spain Citation1993). This contributed to establishing immutable power relations inside domestic space controlled by the hierarchies imposed by heteropatriarchal families (Harvey Citation1985; Millett Citation2000; Mallet 2004). Previous research has identified the home as a marginal space for women and has proposed changes to past family configurations (Hayden Citation1981; Spring Citation[1939] 1981; McDowell Citation2000; Massey Citation[1994] 2001; Federici Citation2018). This article argues that the apartment/office in the streaming series Paquita Salas (Citation2016) blurs both spheres causing a redefinition of the concepts of “home,” “office,” and “family.” This Netflix series thus adopts a subversive position regarding spatial heteronormative configurations by reconceptualizing gender, space, and power relations.
