This article presents the study of two unpublished screenplays written by Carlos Blanco Hernández (Madrid, 1917-2013), pioneer in the literary form of film writing and one of the most important screenwriters of Spanish cinema. Tittled Una víbora en el bolsillo and Cervantes, la estocada secreta, these screenplays develope three main characters inspired by historical figures of Spanish literature: on the one hand, the biography of Gregorio Martínez Sierra and María Lejárraga, who appear under different names although quite similar; on the other, the life of the mature Cervantes, from his return from the Battle of Lepanto until the beginning of the writing of Don Quixote de la Mancha. Both film scripts were written by the screenwriter during his last years and both are currently unpublished. They show the «literary» writing of an atypical screenwriter with personal and unmistakable style.
