  The article intends to show how the theoretical-analytical paradigms expressed by the binomial "respect/reputation" and "home/street", which Caribbean and African American literature has long recorded and used as an ideal reference for masculinity and femininity within the socio-cultural contexts in question, reveal themselves, in the light of the facts, inadequate to understand and describe the reality of the Dominican bateyes

  L’articolo intende mostrare come i paradigmi teorico-analitici espressi dal binomio “rispetto/reputazione” e “casa/strada”, che la letteratura d’area caraibica e afroamericana in generale ha lungamente registrato e impiegato come riferimento ideale per la mascolinità e la femminilità entro i contesti socio-culturali in oggetto, si rivelano, alla prova dei fatti, inadeguati per comprendere e descrivere la realtà dei bateyes dominicani.
