Para estudiar literatura, hay que tener textos fiables, fijados por la ecdótica. El teatro español del Siglo de Oro conserva bastantes manuscritos autógrafos. Su edición crítica se guía por los mismos principios de cualquier otra obra. Con Calderón no se deben seguir sin más las lecturas del manuscrito y la grafía ha de actualizarse en todo lo que carezca de relevancia fonológica.
To study literature it is necessary to have reliable texts, fixed by the ecdotic method. The Spanish theatre of the Golden Age has a high number of autograph manuscripts. Its critical edition follows the same principles as any another play. The forms of Calderón’s manuscripts should not to be respected, and the spelling ought to be the modern one, except the forms with phonological value.
