La torna de posición de Hegel a favor de la Revolución Francesa no le impide reconocer sus límites e insuficiencias, en especial la voluntad de cancelar la diferencia inmediatamente, sin mediación ni interpretación. El querer que es sin más ejecución y que absolutiza la utilidad llega a ser terrorismo de la voluntad. El problema, sin embargo, no se reduce al de la mera libertad de la voluntad sino que se centra en la exigencia de un contenido concreto. La fraternidad como libertad no abstracta, como tarea de concretización y recreación del espíritu, no es un simple anhelo sino una cuestión y una tarea, permanentemente olvidadas.
Hegel's taking a stand in favour of the French Revolution did not prevent him from recognizing its limits and its lacks, speciality with respect to its efforts to remove differences immediately, without any attempt at interpretation or negotiation. Desire, which is only action, and which makes utility the absolute value, becomes the terrorism of the will. The problem, however, is not merely one of freedom, of will, but is found, rather, in the demand for concreteness. Fraternity, like liberty, when not considered in the abstract, when seen as a task of realization and recreation of the spirit, is not simply a vague wish, but a question and a task which is always forgotten.
