El presente trabajo considera el relato “Paladar” (“La primera vez que vi un fantasma”, 2020) de la escritora ecuatoriana Solange Rodríguez Pappe y pretende analizar cómo la comida, epicentro del relato, se configura como el catalizador de lo extraño entendido como disidencia contra-cultural a la vez que como connotación textual. Por un lado, la comida se convierte en el intersticio que se abre entre los conceptos de visibilidad del signo e invisibilidad del mensaje ideológico que el signo vehicula en la subcultura (Hedbige 2004), y que se concreta en el proceso antinormativo que sufre en tanto objeto y práctica considerados triviales en la cultura dominante. Por el otro, lo raro entendido como categoría ontológica problemática atribuida a América Latina se entreteje con la rareza como estatuto textual. Finalmente, se verá cómo la imagen final alusiva al canibalismo realiza la fértil conexión entre comida, cuerpo y rareza.
Present article considers the short story “Paladar” (La primera vez que vi un fanstama, 2020) by the Ecuadorian writer Solange Rodríguez Pappe and aims to analyze how food, the epicenter of the story, acts as the catalyst for the unusual, understood as contra-cultural dissidence as well as textual connotation. On the one hand, food coincides with the gap that exists between the concepts of visibility of the sign and invisibility of the ideological message that the sign transmits in the subculture (Hedbige 2004), and which is materialized in the anti-normative process which objects and practices considered trivial in the dominant culture undergo. On the other hand, the strangeness understood as the problematic ontological category attributed to Latin America is integrated with the unusual as a textual status. Finally, it will be analyzed how the fertile connection between food, body and strangeness is realized in the final image that alludes to cannibalism.
