Mudarse por mejorarse se publicó en la Parte primera de las comedias de Juan Ruiz de Alarcón (1628), edición supervisada por el dramaturgo. En el siglo XVII se imprimió otra versión de la comedia con el título Por mejoría,en laParte cuarenta y una de comedias de diferentes autores(1646), y con el título Dejar dicha por más dicha, en Comedias nuevas escogidas de los mejores ingenios de España. Parte cuarenta y cinco(1679). Existe además una suelta, s.n. (sin nombre de editor, impresor o librero), s.l.(sin lugar de edición),s.d.(sin fecha)(British Library General Reference Collection 11728.f.28) que no había sido tenida en cuenta hasta ahora. Mudarse por mejorar se es la única comedia de Alarcón con doble versión de la que no se conserva un testimonio con fecha anterior a la Parte del dramaturgo. En este artículo se analizan los errores y las variantes de estos cuatro testimonios para determinar el estema de la tradición impresa, y se concluye que la suelta salió de las prensas antes de 1646.
