Las ideologías lingüísticas moldean los sentimientos de los hablantes hacia las lenguas y son incorporadas mediante un proceso de socialización con el entorno. Por su parte, las actitudes lingüísticas generan comportamientos concretos orientados hacia las lenguas y sus hablantes. En este sentido, esta investigación analiza las ideologías y actitudes lingüísticas de la juventud cubana hacia el inglés. Considerando la influencia que ejerce EE.UU. sobre otros países y la apertura política y económica que vive actualmente Cuba, la relación entre ambos países puede definir las opiniones de la sociedad hacia el inglés. La juventud cubana, que por cuestiones de edad va a marcar el rumbo de Cuba en los próximos tiempos, es el objeto de esta investigación sociolingüística. El trabajo de campo se ha realizado en La Habana y cuenta con una metodología cualitativa que toma la entrevista semidirigida como herramienta para extraer los datos
Linguistic ideologies shape the speakers’ feelings towards languages and are incorporated through a process of socialization with the environment. On the other hand, linguistic attitudes generate specific behaviours directed to languages and their speakers. In this respect, this study analyses the linguistic ideologies and attitudes of Cuban youth towards English. Taking into account the influence that the US exerts on other countries and the political and economic opening that Cuba is currently experiencing, the relationship between these two countries can define Cuban society’s views of the English language. Cuban youth, who, for age reasons, will set the course of Cuba in the coming years, is the object of this sociolinguistic study. The fieldwork was conducted in Havana and has a qualitative methodology that utilizes a semi-structured interview as the data collection tool
