Neighbourhoods become spaces of sometimes unexpected encounters; we meet people who have crossed several countries, several cultures, several worlds. The new geographies of identity are destined to transform our cities and raise new questions between tradition and contemporaneity, between local and global, between mobility and belonging. According to data from the Recull Estadístico Ciudad de Valencia 2022 published by the Statistical Office, there are a total of 119,172 residents of foreign origin in the city. This article presents the work carried out by the Espai Obert association through the words of one of its leaders:
Sanae El Bayad, who will tell us what it means to be a migrant and how fundamental it is to build spaces of solidarity and encounter with otherness, training and social intervention, accompaniment and intercultural promotion.
Los barrios se convierten en espacios de encuentros a veces inesperados; así nos cruzamos con personas que han atravesado varios países, varias culturas, varios mundos. Las nuevas geografías de la identidad están destinadas a transformar nuestras ciudades y a plantear nuevos interrogantes entre tradición y contemporaneidad, entre local y global, entre movilidad y pertenencia. Según los datos del Recull Estadístico Ciudad de Valencia 2022 publicado por la Oficina de Estadística, hay un total de 119.172 residentes de origen extranjero en la ciudad. En este artículo se presenta la labor realizada por la asociación Espai Obert a través de las palabras de una de sus responsables: Sanae El Bayad, que nos contará que significa ser migrante y cuán fundamental es construir espacios solidarios de acogida y encuentro con la otredad, la formación y la intervención social, el acompañamiento y la promoción intercultural.
