El presente artículo examina la manera en que el espacio insular ha sido representado en la reciente producción de libros álbum publicados en España, así como su relación con el tratamiento clásico de la isla en la literatura infantil y juvenil. Más concretamente, identifica y describe algunas de las principales tipologías de islas encontradas en estas obras, analizando cómo permiten articular ciertas cuestiones identitarias y tradiciones culturales autóctonas. Además, destaca la importancia de la ilustración en la construcción de este imaginario insular en los primeros lectores. La selección de libros álbum que constituye el corpus aborda el motivo insular desde diferentes acercamientos textuales e icónicos, ofreciendo así una muestra representativa de las posibilidades narrativas y expresivas de esta temática de extraordinaria riqueza y variedad. No se pretende constituir una lista exhaustiva, sino proporcionar una panorámica que ilustre la diversidad de enfoques y representaciones que emergen en la literatura infantil y juvenil contemporánea en España.
This article examines how the insular space has been represented in the recent production of album books in Spain, as well as its relationship with the classic treatment of the island in children’s and young adult literature. More specifically, it identifies and describes some of the main typologies of islands found in these works, analyzing how they enable the articulation of certain identity issues and native cultural traditions. In addition, this work highlights the importance of illustration in constructing this insular imaginary in early readers. The selection of album books that constitute our corpus approaches the insular motif from different textual and iconic approaches, thus offering a representative sample of the narrative and expressive possibilities of this extraordinarily rich and varied theme. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list, but rather to provide an overview that illustrates the diversity of approaches and representations emerging in contemporary children’s and young adult literature in Spain.
