Los escritos de Gaspar M. de Jovellanos son excepcionalmente numerosos y presentan un marcado componente multidisciplinar, pero tienen en común una proteica transmisión textual determinada por diversos factores —existencia de sucesivos estadios de redacción, multiplicidad de testimonios, primeras ediciones escasamente fiables, pérdida posterior de sus testimonios e injerencias ajenas— que han condicionado el hacer de los sucesivos editores. Como en un palimpsesto, las enmiendas realizadas con afán de reconstruir lo que era el texto original se sucedieron a lo largo de dos siglos, y aquí se comparte un histórico de variantes, dudas y sucesivas decisiones sobre algunos loci critici, que espigamos, no tanto para contrastar el acierto o error de cada solución, sino para atisbar por qué se generaron las deturpaciones y cómo se ha operado para solventarlas.
The writings of Gaspar M. de Jovellanos are both extensive and notably interdisciplinary, yet they share a complex and shifting textual transmission shaped by a range of factors—multiple stages of textual evolution, a variety of primary testimonies, unreliable first editions, subsequent loss of their sources, and external interferences—, all of which have significantly influenced successive editorial efforts. Much like a palimpsest, attempts to reconstruct the original text have spanned over two centuries. This study traces the history of variant readings, doubts, and successive editorial decisions regarding some loci critici, not to assess the accuracy of each solution, but rather to illuminate the reasons for textual corruption and the approaches taken to resolve it.
