Casi un siglo después de la constitución del Círculo Lingüístico de Praga, en 1926, nos propo-nemos analizar las letras que el emperador Claudio introdujo en el alfabeto latino, por conside-rarlas quasi maxime necessariae. Utilizando ciertos postulados fonológicos aún vigentes de esa escuela, nuestro análisis intentará mostrar que, por diferentes razones, la necesidad de esas le-tras fue diversa: una de ellas parece haber sido superflua; otra, pertinente, y la otra, fonológica-mente comprensible.
Almost a century after the establishment of the Linguistic Circle of Prague in 1926, this paper intends to analyse the letters that Emperor Claudius introduced into the Latin alphabet, because he considered them quasi maxime necessariae. Using certain still valid phonological postulates of that school, our analysis will try to show that, for different reasons, the need for these letters was diverse: one of them seems to have been superfluous; another, pertinent, and the other, phono-logically understandable.
