This article aims to describe, through the tagging methodology (Frías Conde, 2018; 2023), the forms of treatment used in the speeches of two characters in the soap opera Pantanal (2022), by Benedito Ruy Barbosa. The relevance of the study lies in the fact that the forms of treatment reflect relationships linked to social structures in a given sociocultural context (Biderman, 1972; Frías Conde, 2018, 2023). The theoretical discussion is mainly based on the contributions of Brown and Gilman (1960), regarding the semantics of power and solidarity; by Goffman (1970), with the theory of courtesy and the notion of face preservation; by Biderman (1972), on the relationship between Brazilian Portuguese forms of treatment and social structures; and by Frías Conde (2018; 2023), with the description of the methodology for tagging forms of treatment applied to Ibero-Romance languages. The investigation is part of the qualitative approach. Using the tagging methodology, two clippings of scenes from the soap opera Pantanal are analysed. The forms of address are tagged according to the categories Reference (R), Paradigm (Π) and Degree (G), in addition to considering the sociolinguistic framework and other factors related to the circumstances of use of the forms of address. The analyses carried out show that the forms of treatment vary according to the degree of intimacy of the interactants and the hierarchical relationships established between them.
Este artigo tem por objetivo descrever, por meio da metodologia da etiquetagem (Frías Conde, 2018; 2023), as formas de tratamento utilizadas nas falas de duas personagens da novela Pantanal (2022), de Benedito Ruy Barbosa. A relevância do estudo reside no fato de que as formas de tratamento refletem relações vinculadas a estruturas sociais de dado contexto sociocultural (Biderman, 1972; Frías Conde, 2018, 2023). A discussão teórica se baseia principalmente nas contribuições de Brown e Gilman (1960), referente à semântica do poder e da solidariedade; de Goffman (1970), com a teoria da cortesia e a noção de preservação da face; de Biderman (1972), sobre a relação das formas de tratamento do português brasileiro com as estruturas sociais; e de Frías Conde (2018; 2023), com a descrição da metodologia da etiquetagem das formas de tratamento aplicada às línguas ibero-românicas. A investigação se insere na abordagem qualitativa. Através da metodologia da etiquetagem, são analisados dois recortes de cenas da novela Pantanal. As formas de tratamento são etiquetadas segundo as categorias Referência (R), Paradigma (Π) e Grau (G), além de ser considerado o quadro sociolinguístico e outros fatores relacionados às circunstâncias de uso das formas de tratamento. As análises realizadas mostram que as formas de tratamento variam de acordo com o grau de intimidade dos interactantes e com as relações hierárquicas estabelecidas entre eles.
