O humor tem na política e nos políticos uma inspiração e um alvo preferido. A relação é, desde sempre, conflituosa. A aliança entre política e humor, objeto da nossa análise, é recente. Para esta pesquisa foram selecionados dois lugares discursivos, o talk show televisivo e os debates no parlamento português. A presença de políticos em talk shows humorísticos é frequente, sobretudo em período eleitoral. O parlamento, por sua vez, é uma instituição política, onde o humor pode ter lugar. Assim, cabe perguntar se os políticos usam o humor, onde e como se manifesta esse humor, quais são os contextos, funções e objetos do humor em política, e que mecanismos linguísticos são usados para fazer humor. Estas questões guiaram o presente trabalho, no quadro de uma perspetiva pragmática dos discursos e das teorias do humor. No parlamento, o humor é uma estratégia discursiva; num talk show humorístico, é o objetivo principal, com benefícios, mas também riscos para a imagem dos políticos.
Humor finds inspiration and has a preferred target in politics and politicians. The relationship has always been conflictual. The alliance between politics and humor, our object of analysis, is recent. For this research, two discursive places were selected: two television talk shows and the Portuguese parliament debates. The presence of politicians on humorous talk shows is frequent, especially during election periods. Parliament, in turn, is a political institution where humor can take place. Hence, it is worth asking whether politicians use humor, where and how this humor is manifested, what are the contexts, functions, and objects of humor in politics, and what linguistic mechanisms are used to create humor. These questions guided our research within the framework of a pragmatic perspective of discourse and of theories on humor. In parliament, humor is a discursive strategy; in a humorous talk show, it is the main goal, with benefits but also risks for politicians’ image.
