Este trabajo describe la evolución de la locución a ver p entre los siglos XII y XVI. Para ello se estudian desde un punto de vista morfosintáctico y semántico las primeras etapas de la gramaticalización de la estructura, que no conoce usos independientes –no introducidos por un verbo– hasta mediados del siglo XVI. El estudio permite apartar la hipótesis generalmente admitida de que el marcador a ver del español contemporáneo proviene de vamos a ver. Se comprueba también que las estructuras de tipo a ver si p tienen un funcionamiento similar al de a ver p, aunque su empleo independiente se atestigua antes, a principios del XV. Por último, se compara el empleo de a ver (p) (locución y marcador) con el de los marcadores à voir y voyons voir, del francés contemporáneo, y con el del marcador avoi, del francés medieval, todos ellos formados con el verbo voir.
This paper describes the evolution of the expression a ver p from the 12th to the 16th century. Firstly, we study, from a morphosyntactic and semantic perspective, the initial steps of the grammaticalisation of the structure, which is not used independently –not introduced by a verb– until the middle of the 16th century. The study enables us to reject the commonly accepted hypothesis that the marker a ver in contemporary Spanish derives from vamos a ver. It is also shown that the structure a ver si p functions similarly to a ver p, although the independent use is attested earlier, at the beginning of the 15th century. Finally, the use of a ver (p) (expression and marker) is compared with that of the markers à voir and voyons voir in contemporary French, and with that of the marker avoi in medieval French, all of them formed with the verb voir.
