Zorion (happinness) and zorioneko (happy) are words which were thought up, made up, given a new meaning and, above all —directly and indirectly— spread by Larramendi, with a few clear appearances at the beginning of his trilingual dictionary and alongside and par-allel to numerous testimonies of fortuna, ditxa, felizitate and their derivatives in the centuries up to that time and even thereafter. Significant evidence of Larramendi’s determination and work can be found in the dictionary and his other texts, including the Assumption Sermon of 1740, the Burgos Doctrine and the rest.
As Larramendi’s testimonies demonstrate, in the space of a century words written in Basque —especially in the Southern Basque Country and then to a lesser extent in the North— came to occupy a very wide area, several places in which more than one could run the risk of being consid-ered eternal; the texts, however, assure a very different story. In the appendices at the end (§§ 7.1-7.3), using what we know about diachronic morphology, textual evidence and the history of the lexicalisation of the above-mentioned loanwords, we emphasise the scant plausibility of the proto-historical antiquity of zorioneko and zorion, by including several particular facts and considerations.
Zorion eta zorioneko Larramendik asmatu, eratu, edo adiera berriz hornitu eta, batez ere, —zuzenean eta zeharka— zabaldutako hitzak dira, Hiztegi Hirukoitzaren aitzineko age-rraldi garbirik gabe eta ordura arteko eta are ondoko hainbat mendetako fortuna, ditxa, felizitateeta beren eratorrien lekukotasun ugariren aldamen edo bazterrean. Larramendiren borondate eta lan horren erakusgarri nabarmenak aurkitzen dira HHn eta haren gainerako testuetan, tartean 1740ko Asuntzioko Sermoian, Burgosko Dotrinan eta enparauetan.
Larramendi ondoko lekukotasunek erakusten dutenez, mende bateko tartean euskara idatzian —be-reziki Hegoan eta gero apalago Iparraldean— hitzok hedadura erraldoia hartu zuten, hainbat non bat baino gehiago horiek betidanikotzat jotzeko arriskuan eror litekeen; testuek, ordea, oso bestelako historiaren berme ditugu. Akabuko isatsetan (§§ 7.1-7.3) morfologia diakronikoaren, testu-lekukotasunen nahiz ai-patu maileguen lexikalizazioaren historiez dakigunaz baliaturik, zorioneko-ren eta zorion-en zahartasun protohistorikoaren egiantz urria markatzen dugu, hainbat datu eta gogoeta gogoangarri bilduaz
