    Ever since Mitxelena (1981) proposed that all Basque dialects had their starting point in an éuscaro to be set in the 5th-6th centuries, many contributions have been made aim-ing at the reconstruction of its linguistic traits. In this paper, starting from Hualde’s (2015: 131) well-known diagram, the external aspects of the problem will be discussed. By means of correla-tions between historical and linguistic elements, an attempt will be made to link Old Common Basque and Western Basque to historical processes. The relationship between Old Common Basque and Aquitanian will also be taken up.

    Mitxelenak (1981) euskalki guztiek abiapuntua v.-v i. mendeetan kokatu beha-rreko éuscaro batean zutela proposatu zuenetik, oparoa izan da EBZ honen ezaugarriak berreraikitzen jardun duten ekarpenak. Lan honetan, Hualderen (2015: 131) diagrama ezagunetik abiatuz, auzi honen kanpoko aspektuei ekingo zaie. Elementu historikoen eta linguistikoen korrelazioen bidez, EBZa eta Mendebaldeko Euskara prozesu historikoekiko loturak ezartzeko saio bat egingo da. EBZa eta akitanieraren arteko erlazioa ere eztabaidatuko da.
