El presente artículo, a partir del análisis de los personajes femeninos que sobresalen en las obras memorísticas de las escritoras catalanas Rosa Regàs y Clara Janés, indaga sobre la situación de la mujer en la España del siglo XX. En efecto, los retratos que estas memorialistas esbozan en sus textos permiten apreciar el vivir de dos generaciones de mujeres: las que, tras el fracaso de la experiencia republicana, se amoldan al despotismo de la lógica patriarcal del régimen y las que, ya en los años anteriores a la llegada de la Democracia, se rebelan y reivindican su rol de mujer moderna.
Since the analysis of the female characters that appear in Regàs’ and Janés’ memoirs, this paper goes depth into the condition of women in the XX century in Spain. Through the portraits that each memoirist creates in her text, it is possible to see how two generations of women lived. On the one hand, the stories of those women who, after the unsuccessful republican experience, adapted themselves to the patriarchal society of the Franquoist regime. On the other, all those women who rise up against the male subjection, claiming their role of Modern Woman just before the establishment of democracy.
