The well-established influence of Dante and that of the troubadours on Catalan culture has given rise to an impressive body of scholarship. However, given the vast scope of both subjects and the complexity of their interaction, some aspects are yet to be analysed or reassessed. This article focuses on a case study, Arnaut Daniel’s circulation and reception in Catalonia, from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century, in order to explore how both cultural strands are intertwined and the challenges of researching troubadour reception in Catalan culture. By tracing Arnaut’s reception, both the importance of Dante’s authority and the fluctuating nature of Arnaut’s fame become apparent. Additionally, early research is shown to have taken place in an ideologically charged moment, a cultural context that must be taken into account to fully understand some choices and results that still exert influence today.
La influència de Dante i dels trobadors en la cultura catalana són fenòmens ben coneguts, que han donat lloc a un conjunt extraordinari d’estudis. No obstant això, l’ampli abast dels dos fenòmens i la complexitat de la seva interacció, encara queden per analitzar alguns aspectes, mentre que d’altres demanen una reavaluació. Aquest article se centra en un estudi de cas, la circulació i recepció d’Arnaut Daniel a Catalunya, des de l’edat mitjana fins a principis del segle XX, per tal d’explorar com s’entrellacen ambdues vessants culturals i els reptes de la recerca de la recepció trobadoresca a la cultura catalana. Seguint la recepció d’Arnaut, es fan evidents tant la importància de l’autoritat de Dante com la naturalesa fluctuant de la fama d’Arnaut. A més, es fa evident que les primeres investigacions es van dut a terme en un moment de gran càrrega ideològica, un context cultural que cal tenir en compte per poder entendre algunes opcions i resultats que encara exerceixen influència avui dia.
