Leer es una de las actividades que están más presentes en la elección libre, placentera y voluntaria que abuelos/as y nietos/as realizan en los tiempos compartidos de ocio, siendo uno de los principales motivos que les orienta a su práctica la transmisión de conocimientos. El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar la práctica de la lectura como actividad de ocio cultural compartida entre abuelos/as y nietos/as, las motivaciones para su práctica, así como su vinculación con las expectativas percibidas por abuelos/as y nietos/as. Se utilizó un cuestionario ad hoc administrado a 1063 nietos/as y 357 de sus abuelos/as, y se llevó a cabo un estudio descriptivo y un análisis inferencial de los datos. Los resultados indican que el principal motivo que los lleva a compartir tiempo de lectura es, precisamente, la transmisión de conocimientos de abuelos/as a nietos/as, por lo que la lectura se constata como una herramienta de enseñanza intergeneracional. De hecho, la lectura también ocupa una posición preferente respecto a las actividades que les gustaría compartir en el futuro, lo que muestra las múltiples bondades que esta expresión del ocio ofrece a ambas generaciones, así como su contribución al desarrollo personal de quienes lo practican.
Reading is one of the most present activities in the free, pleasant and voluntary choice that grandparents and grandchildren make when they share their leisure time together, being the transmission of knowledge one of the main reasons to do it. The aim of the present investigation was to analyze the act of reading as a cultural leisure activity shared among grandparents and grandchildren, the reasons that guide them to practice it, and its link with the expectations perceived by grandparents and grandchildren. An ad hoc questionnaire was administered to 1063 grandchildren and 357 grandparents, and a descriptive study and inferential data analysis were conducted. Results show that the the main reason that leads them to share reading time is the transmission of knowledge from grandparents to grandchildren, so reading can be stated as an intergenerational teaching tool. In fact, reading has a prominent position as one of the activities that grandparents and grandchildren would like to share in their future, which shows that this recreational activity has multiple benefits for them, and contributes to their personal growth.
