Desde su aparición en la bibliografía científica especializada, el concepto de “esquizofrenia” y la propia figura del “esquizofrénico” han causado una constante sensación de desazón e incomodidad en la comunidad científica, que todavía hoy, un siglo después, no sólo persiste, sino que se ha recrudecido. Freud, concretamente, se negó siempre a hablar de esquizofrenia. Prefería el término de demencia precoz, ya habitual y ampliamente reconocido entre los especialistas de su época.
Since its appearance in specialized scientific literature, the concept of “schizophrenia” and the very figure of the “schizophrenic” have caused a constant feeling of unease and discomfort in the scientific community, which still today, a century later, not only persists but has intensified. Freud, in particular, always refused to talk about schizophrenia. He preferred the term early dementia, already common and widely recognized among the specialists of his time.
