Based on the reading of two plays (La Cautiva and NN12), I pos-tulate that their main characters, who at first appear as “corpses”, will reach the status of spectres on stage. This transition will be important, since it will allow them to reveal their condition of abject subjects in relation to their gender. Thus, the female spec-ters will function as memory devices and will reveal themselves not only as the conventional subject “disappeared” after the La-tin American dictatorships, but, above all, as the violated female subject (gine sacra). This will be achieved through two theatri-cal mechanisms: dramatic dialogue (testimony) and theatrical allegory. To support this hypothesis, tools from theater analysis and cultural criticism will be employed. It is concluded that both representations constitute essential tools in the processes of me-mory and justice.
