Since his death in 2020, interest in the work of José Jiménez Lozano has increased. This is evidenced by the reissues of his works, the publication of previously unpublished writings, and the increase in scholarly studies on his literary production. Among these studies, those focusing on his early years as a journalist and writer are the most prevalent, given the relative obscurity of this period and its importance for constructing an initial intellectual portrait of the author, considered essential, by general consensus, for understanding his work, at least until the 1980s. The thesis of this article is that through the confessional contents contained in the hundreds of columns that the author published since 1956 and during the 1960s it is possible to guess a peculiar religious conversion, which was the one that led him to become a journalist first and, later, a writer. It is through this lens of religious transformation that his early essay collections and novels acquire fuller meaning.
