Within the framework of a project to evaluate the deficits of critical thinking and creative writing observed in the first educational levels, the general objective is to carry out an analysis of the teaching plans of all the subjects of the Teacher's Degrees in Early Childhood and Primary Education of five Spanish universities (Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Universidad de Extremadura, Universidad de Zaragoza and Universidad de Jaén) in order to examine the presence of linguistic/non-linguistic subjects in them. A total of 572 subjects were analyzed, considering different selection criteria to homogenize the sample: course, number of credits and type of subject. The research, of a mixed nature, included the creation of graphs and tables, in the quantitative part, as well as a descriptive documentary analysis of the teaching plans, in the qualitative part. The results showed a higher number of non-linguistic subjects and credits than linguistic ones and, within these, a greater presence in the compulsory subjects than in the optional ones. Likewise, differences have been observed depending on the universities and courses. The scarce presence of linguistic subjects in the training of future teachers shows certain deficiencies in linguistic and critical thinking skills.
