In the current educational context, critical reading is positioned as a fundamental competence to face information overload. The objective of this research was to analyze the influence of Vee heuristic on the development of critical reading skills (dimensions: literal, inferential and critical) with students in grade 11 of a public institution in Colombia. The sample consisted of 83 students; pretest and posttest tests were used for data collection, by means of a validated MEN questionnaire. The methodological design was based on the quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design with control and experimental group. The normality test determined that the data were not normally distributed, so nonparametric statistics were applied using the Mann-Whitney U test, resulting in significant differences between the treatment groups for the inferential dimension (U = 566.00; p = 0.05). The most significant findings revealed a substantial improvement in inferential reading skills in the experimental group, with a posttest mean of 4.18 versus 3.57 in the control group. In contrast, the literal and critical dimensions showed descriptive improvements, but without statistical significance. It is concluded that the implementation of the heuristic Vee especially favored inferential reading, by guiding the organization of textual information and the construction of meaning relations. However, a longer intervention is required to consolidate significant progress in the critical dimension.
