Color-related words exhibit linguistic peculiarities and connotative values that reflect emotions, ideas and ways of thinking, deeply rooted in each culture. This paper examines the similarities and differences in the figurative values of phraseological units (PUs) associated with the color red in Spanish and Chinese, aiming to identify the cultural characteristics of both linguistic communities and explore the interaction between phraseology and culture. The findings not only demonstrate that the differences in the values and uses of the color red in these two languages outweigh the similarities, but also offer a new intercultural perspective and provide practical guidelines for translating texts in which the color red appears.
