Published in 2016, the collection of poems titled Periferia by Gabriel Trujillo Muñoz offers a perspective of and from the Baja California border. Throughout the volume, the author delves into the geography of that region of Northern Mexico and how the mountains, rivers, coasts, and deserts represent an essential part of both the regional and national discourse. For our purposes, we will establish that the poems of Periferia offer an alternative to anthropocentrism and also subvert coloniality, inseparable both from late Capitalism. In the study we will first establish the main points of current ecocricitism as it relates to our focus and the most salient characteristics of Baja California in order to examine the representation of the earth and nature writ large in the poems of Periferia.
