This paper explores the sociolinguistic continuum of Andalusian Spanish, focusing on the emergence of an intermediate variety positioned between rural vernaculars and the standard language. Rooted in urbanization, demographic change, and social mobility, this variety combines local features with standardized forms, serving as a functional and symbolic resource for identity negotiation and upward mobility. Drawing on empirical data from the Vernacular Urban Malagueño Research Group, the study highlights how linguistic variation in Andalusia reflects broader ideological tensions and communicative needs. The intermediate variety emerges as a socially legitimized model with high pragmatic value in both formal and informal settings.
