Este artigo amplía o concepto tradicional de tradución coa finalidade de amosar as súas funcións creativas dentro da literatura africana. A nosa análise do concepto de tradución vai máis alá do proceso lingüístico que consiste en transferir o significado dunha lingua cara a outra para incluír o medio completo a través do cal as culturas, costumes e tradicións africanas son globalizadas. No artigo ofrécese o marco textual e contextual dende o que examinar o papel da versión francesa de Things Fall Apart na formación da cultura e historia literaria africanas. O artigo demostra como o uso do francés por parte do tradutor de Things Fall Apart constitúe un proceso creativo de tradución que cristaliza nun texto meta que transmite a cosmovisión africana.
This paper expands the traditional notion of translation in order to show its creative functions in African literature. Myanalysis of the concept of translation goes beyond the linguistic process that consists in the transfer of meaning from one language to another to include the entire medium through which African cultures, customs and traditions are globalized. The paper provides textual and contextual frameworks from which to examine the French translation of Things Fall Apart in shaping African literary history and culture. The paper reveals that translator’s use of French in the translation of Things Fall Apart constitutes a creative translation process that leads to the creation of a target text that conveys African worldviews.
