Both Lope de Vega and Shakespeare enjoyed the favor of the public when they were alive; however, their posthumous fortunes have been very different. In this paper we use a statistical approach to analyse the impact that the cinematographic adaptations of their plays have had in diseminating Lope de Vega and Shakespeare's heritage during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. We also addres the lack of cinematographical adaptations of Lope’s works, and explain the neglect suffered by this theatrical heritage in Spain and beyond.
