La lleenda medieval d’orixe cultu de «El tributu de les cien doncelles» que sirvió como llevantu escontra dellos reis asturianos, guaña en Samartín del Rei Aurelio y sirve como base a la xente del conceyu pa ellaborar etimoloxíes populares.
Desplícase asina, pente medies d’histories, l’orixe de dellos topónimos del conceyu de Samartín del Rei Aurelio (L’Entregu, La Choza, La Varaosa, etc.), lo qu’arriquez la lleenda de la figura d’ún de los reis de la monarquía asturiana, que da nome al conceyu.
Esta figura ha revelase clave: sobro ella converxe’l mayor númberu de desplicaciones de les etimoloxíes populares. Fáise un repasu a la figura d’Aurelio según conseñen les fontes históriques, restolando peles cróniques y poniendo porgüeyu nes más de les tesis clave del llevantu escontra’l rei; el trabayu afita les conexones que faen qu’una lleenda culta polarice tou un sistema de creencies populares y sea la causa de l’apaición de munches etimoloxíes populares, pa esplicar a traviés d’esos significaos munchos topónimos del conceyu, baxo la óptica de la figura del citáu monarca.
L’artículu conclúi con un inventariu nel que s’ufre’l nome del topónimu, la desplicación filolóxica o científica, y la popular, a la que s’amiesten, nel casu de que seya posible, referencies escrites que s’atoparon, aportando, tamién, les referencies de fonte oral que se sintieren y qu’entá permanecen vives, anque en retrocesu na mentalidá popular de la xente del conceyu.
The medieval legend of learned origin of «The tribute of the hundred maidens» that served as defamatory element against several Asturian kings, takes root in Samartín of the King Aurelio and can be considered the foundation for the people of the council to elaborate popular etymologies. These stories account for the origin of certain toponyms of the council of Samartín of the King Aurelio (L’Entregu, La Choza, La Varaosa, etc.), which enriches the legend of the figure of one of the kings of the Asturian monarchy that gives name to the council. This figure proves to be a key element, as the greatest number of explanations of popular etymologies converge around it. A review is made of the figure of Aurelius as recorded in historical sources, searching in the chronicles and putting an interest in the key theses of defamation against the king. The article establishes the connections that make a cultured legend polarize a whole system of popular beliefs and be the cause of the appearance of popular etymologies, which seek to explain through these meanings many of the place names of the council, under the lens of the figure of the aforesaid monarch. The article concludes with an inventory of its name in different the place names, their philological or scientific explanation, and the popular accounts in which written references were found and adding, the references to oral sources that were heard and that still remain alive, although in retrograde, in the popular mentality of the people of the council.
