El objetivo de este trabajo ha sido describir la representación del poder y de la justicia en el Retablo de san Jorge del Victoria and Albert Museum de Londres. Para lo cual, en primer lugar, se ha descrito el retablo y se ha establecido un discurso visual unificador que relaciona sus diferentes partes. Seguidamente, se han clasificado las representaciones del poder — divino y humano — y de la justicia — también de la injusticia — atendiendo a los atributos representados y, sobre todo, a partir de la gestualidad. Finalmente, siempre que ha sido posible, se ha contextualizado el discurso visual del retablo con fragmentos de obras literarias coetáneas que, sin ser fuentes directas, comparten un mismo imaginario.
The aim of this work is to describe the representation of power and justice in the Altarpiece of St. George in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. For that purpose, firstly the altarpiece itself has been described by means of a unifying visual discourse to connect its different parts. Then, the representations of power — divine and human — and of justice — and also of injustice — have been classified according to the attributes represented and, especially, according to gestures. Finally, wherever possible, the visual discourse of the altarpiece has been contextualized using fragments of contemporary literary works which, without being direct sources, share the same imagery.
