Actualmente estamos revisitando el archivo del franquismo y su imagen. En este artículo proponemos un acercamiento a sus retratos, más allá de la jerarquía de las artes, y tratamos de recuperar el contexto en el que fueron publicados o exhibidos para que contribuyan a conocer mejor la evolución de la imagen de Franco y su régimen, y para tratar de desvelar nuevos significados. Para ello nos hemos centrado en tres estudios de caso: dos retratos publicados en la portada del diario ABC y el retrato que pintó Zuloaga en 1941, teniendo en cuenta que en la actualidad este último está prácticamente desaparecido debido a su contenido simbólico.
In recent years, Franco’s image during the 1940s has been revisited from different points of view. Here, I propose an approach to his portraits beyond the Fine Arts and their hierarchy, by recovering the context in which they were published or exhibited. The aim is to contribute to a better understanding of Franco’s image and his regime in order to reveal new meanings and frames. I have carried out my research on three case studies: two portraits published on the front cover of the newspaper ABC and the portrait painted by Zuloaga in 1941, bearing in mind that the latter has almost completely disappeared due to the its symbolic meaning.
