    El presente artículo pretende brindar un panorama de la evolución que ha experimentado la representación de los personajes femeninos en el cine centroamericano desde la década de los años 70 hasta el periodo actual. Nos interrogaremos particularmente sobre la relación existente entre los personajes femeninos y su contexto histórico, así como el impacto que ha tenido la inserción de las mujeres en el medio cinematográfico regional, en cuanto a la evolución de los personajes femeninos, su toma de espacio en la pantalla y su protagonismo como personajes principales. Después de trazar un breve recorrido confrontando tanto el documental como la ficción con la realidad histórica del contexto centroamericano, prestaremos un especial interés al análisis comparativo entre las producciones de las últimas décadas con el de los personajes del siglo XXI.

    This article seeks to provide a panorama of the evolution in the representation of female characters in Central American since the 1970s. In particular, we examine the relation that exists between the female characters and their historical context, as well as the impact that the insertion of these women has had on regional cinematography in regards to the evolution of the female characters, how they are portrayed on the screen, and their importance as leading characters. After tracing a brief review associating both the documentary and the fiction film with the historical realities of the Central American context, we give special focus to a comparative analysis of film productions since the 1970s and the evolution of their characters into the 21st century.
