María Luisa Elío Bernal, member of the second generation of Spanish Civil War exiles, suffered a cultural identity crisis resulting from the fight between her child-self, anchored to the past, and her adult-self, linked to the present. In 1970, Elío Bernal assumed the trip back to Spain and the writing of that trip as a mechanism to bring an end to the conflict of self and, thus, to configure her identity. In this way, this article studies the role of the narration as a reparative process of the self, taking as its starting point the trip back home and the relationships between trauma and memory.
