Robert ter Horst’s seminal exploration of marriage economies in Lope de Vega’s La dama boba inaugurates Touchstones, a new occasional feature of the Bulletin of the Comediantes. Its companion piece is a conversation between book review editor Laura Bass and Robert ter Horst, with assistance from Eleanor ter Horst (see “Inextinguishable Curiosity and Questioning”: The Education of Robert ter Horst). Bulletin of the Comediantes thanks the editors of Romanistisches Jahrbuch, who granted permission to reprint the piece, originally published in 1976.
