En este artículo se aborda el uso del sustantivo “cosa” en apren-dientes de ELE de nivel de competencia A2 y B1 con L1 francés, alemán e inglés. Se presenta un estudio descriptivo para precisar y explicar las frecuencias y sistematicidad tanto en los usos más frecuentes del sustantivo cosa como en las problemáticas en el uso de dicho sustantivo. Los resultados evidencian que el sus-tantivo cosa es ampliamente utilizado por los aprendientes de las tres lenguas maternas, observándose una mayor frecuencia en los aprendientes anglosajones, seguidos por los aprendientes con L1 francés y, finalmente, los aprendientes de L1 alemán. En lo relativo al nivel de competencia, se constata una diferencia en la frecuencia de un mayor uso en el nivel A2 con respecto al nivel B2. En cuanto al significado, el sustantivo se usa más en plural que en singular para referirse a productos, características y acti-vidades. Las mayores dificultades de uso corresponden a la con-cordancia gramatical entre determinantes y el sustantivo.
This article addresses the use of the noun cosa in ELE learners of proficiency level A2 and B1 with French, German and English L1. A descriptive study is presented to specify and explain the frequencies and systematicity both in the most frequent uses of he noun thing and in the problems in the use of said noun. The results show that the noun thing is widely used by learners of the three mother tongues, with a higher frequency being observed in Anglo-Saxon learners, followed by French L1 learners and, fina-lly, German L1 learners. Regarding the level of competence, a di-fference is found in the frequency of greater use at level A2 com-pared to level B2. Regarding the meaning, the noun is used more in the plural than in the singular to refer to products, characteris-tics and activities. The greatest difficulties of use correspond to the grammatical agreement between determiners and the noun.
