This paper will, first of all, make a small introduction of colour term bai in the Chinese history in order to show the importance of this colour that means both to the language and the culture of China; secondly, compare the linguistic and cultural aspects between bai in Chinese and blanco in Spanish to demonstrate that, in constrast with the blanco in Spanish, the colour term bai has universal and particular traits. By the other hand, this papel will take as corpus the words formed with bai and appeared in Hong-lou-meng and their translations into Spanish in Sueño de las mansiones rojas, so as to confirm the existence of the many and varied connotations of bai, different from the blanco in Spanish and produced by traditional, social and cultural reasons.
Aquest treball pretén, en primer lloc, fer una petita presentació del terme cromàtic bai en la història xinesa per a destacar la importància d’aquest color tant en la cultura com en la llengua del país; en segon lloc, pretén comparar els aspectes lingüístics i culturals entre bai en xinès i blanco en castellà per tal de comprovar que el terme cromàtic bai, respecte al terme blanco en espanyol, presenta trets universals i particulars. Per altra banda, tindrà com a corpus paraules formades amb bai aparegudes en Hong-lou-meng i les seves traduccions a l’espanyol a Sueño de las mansiones rojas amb la finalitat de demostrar l’existència de les diverses connotacions de bai diferents a blanco en castellà, produïdes per raons tradicionals, socials i culturals.
