El género del road novel se suele fechar en 1957, y el road movie nace oficialmente en 1969. El paso del primero al segundo resulta relativamente abarcable, sin embargo, queda mucho que escribir para convencer de la presencia de la literatura clásica en ambos medios contemporáneos y, en particular, de Los trabajos de Persiles y Sigismunda de Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra. Se exponen primero los componentes del road novel y del road movie, para apreciar en un segundo tiempo en qué medida se puede considerar el Persiles como mosaico de elementos que serán decisivos en el road novel y en el road movie
The road novel is usually dated to 1957, and the road movie was officially born in 1969. The transition from the first to the second is relatively manageable, however, much remains to be written to convince of the presence of classical literature in both contemporary media and, in particular, of The Works of Persiles and Sigismunda by Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra. First, the components of the road novel and the road movie are exposed, in order to appreciate in a second stage to what extent Persiles can be considered as a mosaic of elements that will be decisive in the road novel and in the road movie
