Una de las cuestiones que más ha llamado la atención de la crítica a la hora de analizar El sombrero de tres picos ha sido el estudio de sus fuentes literarias. Este artículo, partiendo del amplio recorrido que los investigadores han efectuado para intentar hallar los orígenes de dicha obra, revela una posible influencia más hasta ahora inadvertida, el modelo religioso de santa Rita de Casia. La hipótesis del trabajo se sustenta en la presencia de una fuente hagiográfica concreta, el Año Cristiano, que el novelista poseía en su biblioteca personal, y que en el siglo xix fue una referencia omnipresente en el conjunto de la novela realista española.
One of the questions that has attracted sigificant critical attention when analysing El sombrero de tres picos has been the study of its literary sources. This article, based on the wide-ranging study that researchers have carried out in an attempt to find the origins of the work, reveals a possible, hitherto unnoticed influence: the religious model of Saint Rita of Cascia. The hypothesis of the work is based on the presence of a specific hagiographic source, the Año Cristiano, which the novelist had in his personal library, and which in the 19th century was an omnipresent reference in the Spanish realist novel.
