Este ensayo analiza la evolución en la representación de las mujeres gitanas en el cine y el documental español de las últimas décadas. Se examina cómo las cineastas Chus Gutiérrez y Arantxa Echevarría han abordado la opresión patriarcal, la violencia de género y la discriminación que enfrentan estas mujeres. Asimismo, se resalta el potencial del género documental, como Tocaorasde Alicia Cifredo, para influir en las generaciones más jóvenes y generar conciencia sobre estas problemáticas sociales. Se concluye que estas obras audiovisuales son herramientas valiosas para promover el cambio y el empoderamiento de las mujeres gitanas.
The essay analyzes the evolution in the representation of Gypsy women in Spanish cinema and documentary films in recent decades. It examines how filmmakers Chus Gutiérrez and Arantxa Echevarría have addressed the patriarchal oppression, gender violence, and discrimination faced by these women. Additionally, it highlights the potential of the documentary genre, such as Alicia Cifredo’s Tocaoras, to influence younger generations and raise awareness about these social issues. It concludes that these audiovisual works are valuable tools to promote change and the empower-ment of women from the Roma community.
