“El español lengua extranjera en Costa de Marfil: ¿por qué y para qué se aprende?” Tal es la pregunta a la que hemos intentado dar una respuesta práctica en esta reflexión, enfatizando tanto las razones que motivan a los estudiantes marfileños a cursar una carrera en Filología Hispánica como las salidas profesionales que ofrece el aprendizaje del español en dicho país. Para ello, hemos encuestado a 58 estudiantes de ELE. Luego, hemos analizado estos datos basándonos en el método mixto, esto es, la combinación del enfoque cualitativo y cuantitativo. Los resultados revelan los diversos motivos por los que los alumnos marfileños están entusiasmados por aprender español: intrínsecos, instrumentales, etc. Y aunque tradicionalmente estos se decantan por la docencia, la traducción y/o interpretación, conviene señalar que existen otras ventajas laborales que van surgiendo de forma progresiva.
“Spanish as a foreign language in Ivory Coast: why and what is it learned for?” This is the question that we have tried to answer in this work, putting emphasis not only on the reasons why Ivoirians students decide to study Spanish Philology, but also on the career opportunities that the learning of Spanish language offers in this country. With this aim, we have made a survey on 58 Ivoirians SFL learners. Also, we have analysed the obtained results in terms of the mixed method, which is deemed as a combination of qualitative and quantitative approach. Results show that there are many reasons why Ivorians like to learn Spanish: intrinsic, instrumental, etc. Although they prefer generally to work as teachers, translators and/or interpreters, it is important to say that there are progressively other opportunities for them.
