La presente unidad didáctica propone un acercamiento cultural a la controvertida figura histórica de La Malinche, la nativa americana que desempeñó un papel fundamental en la conquista de México.
Gracias a sus conocimientos lingüísticos (náhuatl, maya y castellano), pasó de ser esclava a convertirse en intérprete al servicio de Hernán Cortés, de quien fue también consejera y pareja. Por su fidelidad a los invasores, en México su nombre es sinónimo de deslealtad, de modo que la representación de La Malinche que ha permeado la cultura mexicana desde el siglo XVI hasta comienzos del siglo XX es la de mujer traidora. Sin embargo, a lo largo del siglo XX el revisionismo histórico y cultural ha hecho esfuerzos para revertir la imagen negativa que se tiene de este personaje histórico en el mundo hispano, poniendo el foco en sus adversas circunstancias biográficas y en su papel de fundadora o madre de la nación mexicana.
This didactic unit proposes a cultural approach to the controversial historical figure of La Malinche, the Native American woman who played a fundamental role in the conquest of Mexico. Thanks to her linguistic knowledge (Nahuatl, Mayan and Spanish), she went from being a slave to becoming an interpreter at the service of Hernán Cortés, of whom she was also an adviser and partner. Due to her fidelity to the invaders, in Mexico her name is synonymous with disloyalty, so the representation of La Malinche that has permeated Mexican culture from the 16th century to the beginning of the 20th century is that of a betrayer woman. However, throughout the 20th century, historical and cultural revisionism has made efforts to reverse the negative image of this historical figure in the Hispanic world, focusing on her adverse biographical circumstances and on her role as founder or mother of the Mexican nation.
