La heráldica fue un lenguaje simbólico de origen medieval que alcanzó su plenitud durante la Edad Moderna. Más allá de los lugares habituales, la literatura también devino un rico escaparate para la exhibición de escudos de armas. En las portadas y dedicatorias de la novela corta del Barroco español, género muy leído en la época, se registran interesantes ejemplos de cómo los tentáculos de la heráldica invadieron también ese espacio cultural más allá de obras nobiliarias o genealógicas. A través del presente artículo pretendemos estudiar la semiótica de esta ‘heráldica literaria’, muy poco sondeada hasta la fecha.
Heraldry was a symbolic language of medieval origin that reached its peak during the Modern Age. Beyond the usual places, literature also became a rich showcase for the display of coats of arms. On the covers and dedications of the short novel of the Spanish Baroque, a widely read genre at the time, there are interesting examples of how the tentacles of heraldry also invaded that cultural space beyond noble or genealogical works. Through this article we aim to study the semiotics of this “literary heraldry”, very little explored to date.
