In this paper, we analyse the treatment of the cultural component in the manual for teaching Spanish in secondary education in Cameroon. There is no doubt that language and culture have a close and inseparable relationship and that for a good communicative performance of the non-native learner in interaction with native speakers, both language and culture are important. It is not in vain that reference documents highlight the importance of developing intercultural communicative competence in foreign language learners. In this paper, we ask ourselves what components of the culture of the Hispanic and Cameroonian world are included in the textbook under analysis and how they are treated. Our aim is to determine whether the cultural contents present in the textbook under study are relevant, sufficient and would enable the teacher to develop the intercultural communicative competence of the students. For this purpose, we have chosen the textbook of the first year of ELE in Cameroonian secondary education, which we analysed under qualitative and quantitative precepts. The results show that we are still a long way from the full integration of the cultural component in the textbook analysed. It is also observed that cultural content of an encyclopaedic nature is the most predominant, to the detriment of the cultural patterns underlying communicative interactions (culture with a lower case) and which underpin reflection on one's own culture and that of the target language, and which favour the development of intercultural competence.
